Walks around Buckland & Betchworth

The idea for a booklet for local walks, arose from the analysis of a village appraisal questionnaire that was circulated to all Buckland residents in 2002. The appraisal attracted a 85% return. Half the respondents said they would welcome leaflets of local walks, and over two-thirds said they would appreciate maps of local footpaths. These suggestions were subsequently included in the Parish Council’s Action Plan.

During the first half of 2003, six walks were produced for the Buckland and Betchworth magazine, some routes going beyond the village boundaries into Brockham or Reigate. The booklet,  cover price £1, has been on sale since August 2003 and consists of those walks plus a historical tour around Buckland village.

To take advantage of the online website, you click on Parish Magazine and flick through the issues from January 2003 to July 2003 - one walk is contained in each issue - and of course you can print each walk off free of charge.   The more convenient format is the published version advertised above.

We hope that, like us, you will agree that Buckland and Betchworth have some of the loveliest walks in Surrey.

Hannah Munroe-Burrows’s illustration on the front cover makes it very distinctive. Distribution is via the Buckland and Betchworth Village Shops, The Ancient House Bookshop in Reigate, Information Centre Dorking Halls, Dorking and Reigate Libraries and Buckland Church.

Proceeds from the sale of the booklet will go to cover the cost of a Village Awareness Day for the children of Buckland and Betchworth, to be organised through Acorns School.
