The Buckland Parish Council is made up of seven elected Councillors who are residents of the Parish of Buckland and a Clerk:
The
Council has an annual budget of £3,700 which comes from the Community
Tax. This has remained unchanged for the last five years. The Council is
responsible for the upkeep of the Village Green and this, together with
the Clerk’s salary and administration costs, absorbs most of the
income. The Council has few powers but acts as an advisory agency for
planning matters, road safety, road maintenance, refuse collection and
other functions of local government. The
Council identifies areas of local concern and factors that can improve
the quality of life of Buckland residents. Recent examples of works
carried out by the Council are as follows: Village Garden Refuse Compost
site, restoration of public benches, Church Floodlighting, Village
Shop security system, Granite sets on the Village Green to avoid damage
by parked cars and the Village Sign. Most
importantly, the Council set up an appraisal study - detailed under the VILLAGE
PLAN on this web-site. This is to make sure
that the local needs are understood and
the local community is involved in the decision making procedure.
Many local residents have been involved in compiling and circulating an
Appraisal Questionnaire and will be involved in producing, from the data
collected, a Village Plan. Iain
Laurenson Clerk of Buckland Parish Council
