Postcard - c 1910 Pond & Green Maintenance Buckland Parish Council is responsible for the upkeep of the Village Green and the Pond. The pond is cleared annually of invasive vegetation by village volunteers, co-ordinated by the Parish Council and Pond Warden. Note from the postcard above the complete absence of pondweed in 1910 ! New Trees Planted on the Green Two of the old Hawthorn trees on the north side of the pond have split trunks and are dying, so two young sapling hawthorns (Crataegus laevigata rosea plena) have been planted, funded by the Parish Council. The older trees will be removed at a later date when the new trees are established. The 2002 celebrations of the Queen's Golden Jubilee had a small fund left, and a further tree was selected to commemorate the event - a 'Rosebud cherry' (Prunus subhirtella autumnalis) which flowers pink in mid-Spring. The trees were planted on 6 December 2003: Pond Clearance The last pond clearance in September 2003 gained coverage withn Photos in the Dorking Advertiser.
