The
idea of the poster competition was to get a picture that we could
use as a means to promote the Appraisal Questionnaire. We wanted an
image that represented the village and decided to engage the children
of the community in the appraisal and thus get them involved.
All
of the contestants' work will be placed into a "Time Capsule",
which it is proposed to bury under Buckland Green with a stone laid
to commemorate the Appraisal Questionnaire and Plan, later in the
year. We managed
to get a large number of the local children involved with the competition
and they each painted a picture of Buckland to be used as the basis
for a poster.
We
had a total of 48 pictures submitted most of which were painted at
a workshop that was held in January 2002. All of the pictures were
then broken down into a number of age categories (Under 5s, 5-7, 7-9,
9-11, over 11s) and were judged by members of the Dorking Group of
Artists.
A
finalist from each section was chosen and then an ultimate winner
overall (see hyperlink to view all of the posters that where involved
as well as the section finalists and the overall winner). The overall
winner is used in the poster advertising the Appraisal Questionnaire.
Each of the finalists received a small prize as well as the
overall winner, with all entries receiving a certificate to remind
them of the event. We have also posted some photos from the presentation
done in February 2002 and from the January workshop.
We
would like to give special thanks to Amanda Allen & Karen Munroe
for organising this whole event and also thanks to Marjorie Hill and
other of the DGOA that helped judge the pictures as well as all of
the other helpers involved.
