Buckland Choral Society triumph again at the 2005 Centenary Leith Hill Musical Festival Over the weekend of 14-16 April, music lovers from all over Surrey descended en masse on the Dorking Halls to celebrate 100 years of great music making by the Leith Hill Musical Festival, so beloved by its director for over 50 years, Ralph Vaughan Williams, one of England's greatest composers. This special Festival was particularly memorable for Buckland Choral Society, which draws most of its members from Reigate and the surrounding area. For the second successive year (a first in Buckland's almost 80 year history), the effort of turning out for rehearsals throughout the dark winter evenings paid super dividends for Buckland when they collected the trophy for the best aggregate performance in Division 2 and their gallant quartet were awarded the highest marks for the ensemble performance. Buckland's delight at their success in Friday's competitions was compounded when on the final night of the Festival their quartet's performance of an arrangement of 'Early One Morning' was adjudged to be the best performance of the whole Festival and they were awarded the William Cole Banner. Congratulations to all the members of the Borough's prize-winning choir. If you would like to be part of their future triumphs, ring BCS's chairman, Barbara Leech, on 01737 763795 for more details.
