One World Group
The Buckland One World Group, which began in 1979, has two main purposes:
- To focus our attention on problems facing poor people in developing countries
- To raise money for worthwhile projects in those countries.
Our core charity is Money for Madagascar. This is a small but highly productive concern that spends 96% of its income on supporting the people of one of the poorest countries in the world and does not receive a great deal of other outside support. Besides providing relief from natural disasters, the charity sponsors projects to provide people with the skills necessary to earn a living. We organise regular talks about Madagascar, some about the features of the island such as its wild life, others about the projects that the charity sponsors. We have also organised entertainment events to raise funds for this charity. These have included concerts, a talk on designing costumes for film and TV and open gardens. Click here for more information about this wonderful charity.
Other charities we have recently supported include the Free Trade movement with a talk on the people of Peru, the Belarusian Hospice, East African Playgrounds, Peace Direct and the Quicken Trust.
Details for any events we have planned can be found by visiting the Village Events Calendar – click Events.
