Your Parish Council is a local level of government and has a number of roles and responsibilities. These are likely to increase over time as the Government devolves more responsibility to local communities at the same time as we experience cutbacks in services from our District and County Councils. The Parish Council precept for the 2011/12 financial year is £8,000. Mole Valley District Council has agreed to provide a £1500 concurrent grant to contribute to the maintenance of the village pond and adjacent village green as a recreation area.
The main running costs include the maintenance of the village green and pond , the upkeep and replenishment of the recently installed grit bins, the floodlighting to the church, administrative expenses and the employment of a part time Clerk, who handles our administration and ensures we keep abreast of legislation and our obligations. The balance is spent on amenity improvements.
We are consulted by Mole Valley District Council on all planning applications arising in Buckland and consider the views of residents in our response. We are also consulted by Mole Valley District Council, Surrey County Council and Surrey Police in relation to other government functions including planning policy, highways maintenance, road safety, public rights of way and local policing.
We provide a link with the community and take up issues on your behalf, organise the Annual Parish Meeting and welcome residents to our meetings. The Parish Council seeks to identify and address areas of local concern and to pursue opportunities to improve the quality of life for Buckland residents.
