Buckland Parish Council is responsible for the maintenance of the village pond and adjacent green as an area for recreation.
In July 2011, the Parish Council adopted a five year Management Plan for the village pond and green. A copy of this plan, which was prepared by Simon Elson, Surrey County Council's Biodiversity Lead for Open Standing Water Habitats, can be obtained by contacting the Parish Clerk.
Simon Elson, ably supported by the Reigate Area Conservation Volunteers, led this year's autumn pond clearance on Sunday 18th September 2011. Earlier this year, the larger fish in the pond were rescued and full advantage was taken of the low water level in the pond to reduce the amount of excess vegetation. The Parish Council has been advised that one annual pond clearance is unlikely to be sufficient to control the excess vegetation and maintain an adequate year round body of water. If you would be willing to volunteer to help undertake a pond clearance next Spring please contact the Clerk.
The Buckland flagpole was donated by Paul Rietchel for the Queen's 2002 Golden Jubilee Celebrations. As its installation was welcomed by residents, it was decided to retain the flagpole with Paul agreeing to be Flag Warden.
The Union Flag is the official flag of the United Kingdom and government and local authority buildings are encouraged to fly the Union Flag every day of the year. In Buckland, a Union flag or England flag is currently flown at Christmas, Easter and on the following occasions:
