In early 2003 Buckland Parish Council elected a Steering Committee to conduct a survey of the views of village residents, in order to better serve the needs of the Community. The Committee comprised:

The Committee designed, distributed and analysed a questionnaire and the responses.
A poster competition was held to get a picture that we could use as a means to promote the Appraisal Questionnaire. This engaged the children of the community in the appraisal and thus got them involved. 48 pictures were submitted most of which were painted at a workshop that was held in January 2002. All of the pictures were then broken down into a number of age categories (Under 5s, 5-7, 7-9, 9-11, over 11s) and were judged by members of the Dorking Group of Artists.
All of the contestants' work was placed into a "Time Capsule", buried under Buckland Green
