Plant a tree – The Queen’s Green Canopy

The Queen’s Green Canopy

As a nationwide initiative created to mark the Platinum Jubilee, the Queen’s Green Canopy was due to conclude in December 2022 – the end of the Jubilee year. However, as the official tree planting season in the United Kingdom is from October to March, the initiative has been extended to the end of March 2023 to ensure it includes a second full tree planting season.

The Queen’s Green Canopy website records the team’s pride to be creating a living legacy with over a million trees planted in Her Majesty’s name across the nation during last winter’s first planting season and the project team hope the  extension will enable us all to help build on this living legacy and serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country and her people.

Throughout Her reign, The Queen has planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world and has spoken alongside Sir David Attenborough of the importance of trees in Earth’s future. The Platinum Jubilee will offer an opportunity for people to unite in celebration of The Queen’s lifetime of service in support of the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth. Everyone is encouraged to take part in creating this special gift to Her Majesty by planting and celebrating trees.

The QGC website offers advice including when to plant, how to choose what tree to plant and how to plant.

Once you have planted your tree please “Pin your Jubilee tree” to the Queen’s Green Canopy map.
