Safety Improvement Works : Junction of Pebblehill Road and Headley Common Road

Surrey County Council Highways contractors will be making adjustments to the Headley Common Road/Pebble Hill Road junction. The work involves altering the kerblines, islands, signage and road markings, priorities and undertaking carriageway resurfacing

A proportion of Headley Common Road will be closed throughout the construction phase – the southern ‘slip road’.

Headley Common Road will be closed in full to motorists between the Pebble Close and Pebble Hill Road junctions during the school Easter holidays (weeks commencing 3 April and 10 April)

Surrey Highways has published the following provisional works programme, with a cautionary note that timings will remain subject to review and a recommendation to all to check latest information on the SCC Highways website before setting out:

Phase 1 – week 1 (w/c 27/03/23 – pre-Easter Holidays/term time) – day works

• TM proposed – road closure on the Pebble Hill Road to Headley Common Road (and vice-versa) slip road 24/7, opposite side of the junction still allowing access in both directions via short diversion route (to Phizer roundabout and back)

Phase 2 – week 2 (w/c 03/04/23 – Easter Holidays) – day works

• TM proposed – Headley Common Road junction bell-mouth closure 24/7 (between the junction with Pebble Close and the western extents of Pebble Hill Road/Dorking Road at the junction with Headley Common Road), plus 2-way temporary signals (manual control 7am-7pm) on Pebble Hill Road/Dorking Road and associated lane closure of NB outside/overtaking lane on Pebble Hill Road (Pebble Hill Road/Dorking Road NB and SB access maintained throughout)

Phase 3 – week 3 (w/c 10/04/23 – Easter Holidays) – day works

• TM proposed – Headley Common Road junction bell-mouth closure 24/7 (between the junction with Pebble Close and the western extents of Pebble Hill Road/Dorking Road at the junction with Headley Common Road),

Phase 4 – weeks 4, 5 & 6 (w/c 17/04/23, 24/04/23, 01/05/23  – post-Easter Holidays/term time) – night works (plus possible day-works)

• TM proposed – road closure on the Pebble Hill Road to Headley Common Road (and vice-versa) slip road 24/7, opposite side of the junction still allowing access in both directions via short diversion route (to Phizer roundabout and back) – as per phase 1 above, for as long as required to complete civils works across weeks 4, 5 & 6.  Headley Common Road junction bell-mouth night-time 20:00 to 06:00 closure (for proposed resurfacing (1 week)), followed by Pebble Hill Road/Dorking Road night-time 20:00 to 06:00 closures (for proposed resurfacing (2 weeks))
