Going Greener
When Buckland Parish Council met in November 2020, Council resolved to “actively think about climate change in every action Council takes by Councillors incorporating consideration of climate change into their everyday thinking” rather than rush to launch any specific initiatives at this time and recorded “an interest in any future initiatives our neighbouring parishes and statutory councils might be championing with a climate change or environmental theme“.
Over the coming months more details will be published within this “Going Greener” section of our village website to highlight steps our community is taking to contribute to the district and county wide efforts. Updates will be published within parish news before being stored in a “Going Greener News Archive“.
Anyone keen to champion a “Going Greener” initiative is encouraged to provide details to our webmaster.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) declared a climate emergency in June 2019 and pledged to make their operations carbon neutral by 2030. You can read more about the steps MVDC is taking to reduce its carbon footprint by visiting the section of its website now dedicated to “Climate Change and Sustainability“.
One of the steps MVDC has taken is to improve communication with its residents and partners across Mole Valley. The Going Greener section of the MVDC website encourages everyone to “do something to help the environment in Mole Valley, whether that be at home, at work or when out and about in our beautiful District” and reminds us that “when we make changes which reduce our individual carbon footprint, we are also doing our bit to help tackle the global climate change emergency, which is already having far reaching impacts“.
Surrey County Council (SCC) has also declared a climate emergency that includes a 2050 target date for the county becoming carbon neutral. Read more about SCC’s Climate Change Strategy.
