Scouts and Guides

Rainbows and Brownies meet each Monday, during school terms, in Buckland Reading Room.  The busy unit leader would very much appreciate the assistance of a “permanent unit helper” – please consider volunteering if you are able to attend when the Rainbows meet at 4pm and/or the Brownies meet at 5.15pm.

Guides meet each Tuesday, during school terms, at 7pm in Buckland Reading Room.

Guides build brilliant friendships
Girls at Guides won’t be your average friends. They’ll be the girls who want to go on adventures with you, who encourage you to try new things and who celebrate when you’ve pushed yourself to achieve something special.    As you progress through Guides you’ll have a chance to lead small groups and support younger girls to have fun and make friends. You could even get involved in our Youth Leadership programme.

Guides get to have their say
You and the girls in your group will decide together what to do in your meetings. So whether you want to try a new sport, have a go at performing or run a debate – you can.  If there’s an issue you really care about, Guides is a chance to make a difference. You’ll be encouraged to speak out about what matters to you and to do something about it.

Your Guide programme, awards and badges
You’ll follow the Guide programme which includes interest badges – about science, cooking outdoors, films, all sorts – special activity packs and unique awards like the Baden-Powell Challenge Award, which will really help you at school and later in life.

Interested in having some fun
Visit Girl Guiding to register or contact Fiona Meadows, Dorking Downs District Commissioner.

Buckland is fortunate to be located so that it is served by two thriving Scout Districts, Reigate and Dorking, each with several different groups, all of whom provide a full programme of activities for their members.

The closest group in the Dorking District is the Brockham Scout Group (22nd Dorking); they can often be seen travelling around in a red double decker bus (007).  Further information about Brockham Scouts on their page of the Brockham Village website

The nearest group in the Reigate District is the 30th Reigate Scout Group who meet in Somers Hall, Slipshoe Street (near the Red Cross).  The 30th Reigate Group was founded in 1925, is the largest group in the Reigate District and one of the largest groups in Surrey and the UK.
